The ocean beacon tower is a modular underwater monitoring system for underwater target detection, communication and navigation.The system consists of a shore information center and amounts of subsurface buoy nodes,which can effectively and quickly meet the demand of target surveillance, information collection,early warning and etc.
lEnvironmental adoption:Communication unit can float or submerge at underwater 10-20 m for a long time and come out of the water communication as needed.It can avoid vandalism,bad weather and has strong environmental adaptability.
lGood invisibility:the system uses passive detection mode most of the time with small self-detection factor.The acoustic communication becomes silent once unknown target is detected to be approaching nearby.
lNetworking detection:many sets of nodes can integrate and process the information to instead network detection.It can also identify the objects with the help of AIS information.
lUnderwater acoustic communication and navigation:underwater acoustic communication unit works as the inter-system communication, underwater navigation facilities and information center.This can communicate with types of passing vessels (such as unmanned vessel,surface ships,submarines,etc.).

lTarget detection:the system contains a vertical linear array detector module that can adjust detection parameters automatically according to the acoustic environment.This module can carry out long-term fixed location detection and data acquisition on fixed or moving underwater targets and communications facilities (such as all types of AUVs,all types of unknown active sonar, communications sonar, etc.).
lEnvironmental surveillance:Using temperature-depth measurement cable and channel estimation module,this system can obtain long-term hydrological parameters automatically.This oceanographic information is sent to the target detection unit and shore information center.
lComprehensive communication:Integrated communication can warn immediately when satellite communication results come out and exchange data with the information center.UHF low-speed data exchange can be used when distance is less than 2000 m whereas Wi-Fi can be used to transmit large amounts of data when distance is less than 50 m.
lThe system consists of a shore information center and many distributed underwater buoy nodes. Shore information center consists of the satellite communicator and the information integration processor. The buoy node consists of the following units;
